How To

DIY Dark Wax the Fast and Easy Way

I have seen a lot of different ways people make their own dark wax, and most of them use the stove top, double boilers, etc. I didn’t want to get all the different dishes out that I would need to do this, so I took a teeny tiny kids’ lunch tupperware, and did the following:

Put about 1 T. of wax into a container and microwave for 15 seconds, stir, then another 15 seconds.

STEP 2:

Mix in about 1 T. of a dark stain.

To mix, use a popsicle stick or something else you can throw away.

Put in freezer for 20-30 minutes or until wax appears solid.

The texture looks grainy, but applies very smoothly.

All the posts I had read about DIY dark wax said you had to use it that day, but I put a lid on this tupperware and used it the next day and it worked perfectly. I don’t know how long it lasts past day 2 because I used it all on the second day, but I’ll test it on future projects and post an update.
